One of the first things President Trump addressed in his second term, was the fact that other countries around the world have been taking advantage of the United States for decades with huge tariff taxing on our products while we hardly tax them at all for all their sub-par imported products.

One of the most common tariffs called Ad Valorem tariffs are a percentage tariff on the value of goods being imported. These tariffs protect growing industries and will encourage consumers to buy domestic products. Protective tariffs, charge a higher tax on imported goods so similar U.S. domestics good can be sold at a more competitive price.

In a published report featured on Congress.gov, the Congressional Research Report stated the following: “Since the beginning of his second term as President on January 20, 2025, President Donald J. Trump has invoked multiple legal authorities to increase tariffs on U.S. imports. Some trading partners have announced retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports. The President has invoked IEEPA to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, after declaring “the influx of illegal aliens and illicit drugs” posed a national emergency. The President also directed Executive Branch agencies to review various aspects of U.S. trade and economic security policy, and address any “unfair” trade practices by foreign partners. Currently, the Trump Administration is in negotiations with some trade partners on tariff and trade matters.”

On May 9, 2025, Trump announced a 90-day pause with a deadline of July 9, 2025 on all proposed tariffs to countries that hadn’t retaliated against the action. China responded to the original tariff increase of 34% by increasing tariffs on US goods (from 84% to 125%), resulting in Trump increasing China’s tariff rate to 145%. As of May 12, 2025, China and the US have agreed to a separate 90-day tariff reduction, with the latest rate reflected in the table below.

One of the President’s top economic advisors, economist Stephen Miran, recently stated that President Trump remains focused on using tariffs to encourage U.S. companies to sell American products in international markets and that tariff rates will come down to countries' who are willing to negotiate with President Trump.

For far too long, the United States has been expected to pay higher tariffs in these unfair trade practices, not to mention the security and protection provided by our Military to countries around the world including such places like Canada who doesn’t pay a dime for our protection.

On a Truth Social post, President Trump stated that, “We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country. They are obviously copying the European Union, which has done the same thing, and is currently under discussion with us, also. Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will let Canada know the Tariff they will be paying to do business with the United States of America within the next seven day period. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

To our fellow Americans, despite scare tactics by so called financial experts and the socialist democrat run media, the economy has not only remained stable but in many cases, prices have gone down. Eggs, gasoline and more product pricing continue to decline despite the push back from the socialist blue run states and the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell who has refused to lower interest rates substantially as requested by President Trump who wants interest rates at 1%.

If we can survive 4 years of a disastrous Biden/Harris economy, we can endure a few months of buying domestically rather than paying more to China for their crappy products. Buy American. Support American companies and workers. Despite the complexity of this issue, this is something that must be done and our President is doing it. He is a wise business man who understands why these countries can no longer take advantage of the United States. AMERICA IS BACK!
