2026 GOLD MEDALISTS MEN'S USA HOCKEY TEAM
GOLDEN GOLD – 46 Years In The Making
America’s patriotism was once again ignited across the nation when the USA Hockey Team won the Gold Medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy on February 22, 2026. For the first time in 46 years since the United States won the 1980 Olympic Gold Medal in Lake Placid, New York dubbing it the “Miracle On Ice” America is celebrating this historic win.
During a well matched and high paced game, USA Team member Matt Body scored the first goal just six minutes in the first period followed by Canada scoring a goal late in the second period with the game remaining tied for the duration which let to OT. After a 3rd period high stick to the mouth by Canadian forward Sam Bennett and losing two teeth, Jack Hughes came back to score the “Golden Goal” in a 3-on-3 overtime for a 2-1 win against rival Canada. In just seconds before he scored the winning goal Hughes was forced to play defense against Canadian forward Connor McDavid who came down on him with the speed that only McDavid can produce. “When the best player in the world, maybe ever, comes down on you in overtime in the gold medal game and you’re a forward, my first thought was ‘I gotta gap up,’” Hughes said. “Then I was like, ‘I can’t gap up, he’ll just blow right by me.’ So, I just sunk in and hopefully he can’t get around me because there’s not enough space in between me and the net. And that’s honestly kind of what happened.”
Team USA became a proud American sports team family, who portrayed a forceful unit during a high paced and intense showdown against Canada bringing a win back to the United States and the North America continent. One of the most important aspects of the game was the phenomenal talent portrayed by USA Team Goalie Connor Hellebuyck who stopped 41 shots leading the game into overtime. Hellebuyck had several outstanding blocks, with the most exciting in the third period, by getting just enough of his stick paddle on the puck to deflect it wide and stop Canada’s Devon Toews from tucking a rebound into a gaping net. He also stopped Connor McDavid on a breakaway halfway through the second period. Teammate Matthew Tkachuk said of Hellebuyck, "It's going to go down as one of the best performances of all time, it has to." Tkachuk continued, "[It’s] Right up there with Jimmy Craig [in 1980 and], all the great United States goaltenders. In the NHL, whatever type of hockey, whatever goaltending performance you want to talk about, that's right up there."
President Trump congratulated the USA Men’s Hockey Team on winning the Gold and making America proud, during a call to the team just minutes after winning the Gold Medal during their locker room celebration. During the call the President invited the team to join him at the State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The USA Men’s Hockey Team was honored by the President and the Republican Members of Congress with a long and exuberant standing ovation. The democrat members of congress unfortunately chose to stay seated and refused to even clap for the team in a blatant display of disrespect. Patriotism and being united as one nation under God is what makes America the greatest Country in the world.
